2012 LEAF Details

The all-electric 2012 LEAF is a four-door hatchback that is available in two trims: SV and SL.  The LEAF has a 24 kWh lithium-ion battery pack that powers its 80 kW electric motor.  This motor drives the front wheels and produces 107 horsepower and 207 lb-ft of torque. 

The LEAF's lithium-ion battery pack is recharged by plugging the car's charging port into a standard 120-volt outlet or a 240-volt charging station.  A fully depleted battery takes seven to ten hours to fully recharge when plugged into a charging station.

The LEAF can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in under 10 seconds and has a maximum speed of 90 mph.  The EPA estimates that the vehicle's range is 73 miles.  Driving style, speed, traffic conditions, the age of the battery, and weather are factors that can affect range.  The EPA determined that the 2012 LEAF has a MPG equivalent of 106 mpg in the city and 92 mpg on the highway.

2012 LEAF Safety and Features

The 2012 LEAF earned the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's highest rating of "Good" for frontal-offset, side-impact, roof-strength, and rear crash protection/head restraint crash tests. This vehicle has many standard safety features including stability control, traction control, four-wheel antilock disc brakes, emergency braking assist, tire pressure monitoring, electronic brakeforce distribution, front and rear head airbags, front side airbags, side curtain airbags, and a whiplash protection system. The SL trim offers a rearview camera.  

LEAF owners can use their smart phones to view and control many of the functions of their car including charging times and progress, estimated available range, and cabin heating and cooling.
